Tsuji Gettan Sukemochi was known not just as a master of the sword, but as an enlightened Zen philosopher and scholar. As evidenced by his writing, the “Mugai Shinden Kenpō Ketsu” shows heavy influences from Zen and Chinese philosophy. His mastery of the sword was coupled with his mastery of Zen.
